Happy Mother’s day to all mothers! Hope you’re getting a much-deserved and needed break today and that it would involve some reading 😉

These books had many other important themes, but they also centered around the challenges of being a mother and they resonated with me. Some of them have been reviewed before, some of them are new and one I read years ago. Please do share with me your thoughts!

My full review here.

Where Reasons End by YiYun Li

Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother by Amy Chua

This biography stayed with me even after years of reading it. It stirred up a lot of emotions in me as a daughter. It’s hard to forget a book like this. I’m thinking of reading it again now that I’m a mother. My thoughts and perception might be different.

The Farm by Joanne Ramos

A mother left her responsibilities as one when she took up a job to be a surrogate mother so that she could provide for her daughter. This job didn’t allow her to visit her daughter, but the pay was lucrative. Will she regret her decision? How can she be a good mother when she can’t even perform her duties as one to her own daughter?

Motherhood is a double-edged sword. It can be beautiful and brutal at the same time. It can blur the lines of right and wrong. Mothers are faced with decisions everyday pertaining to ourselves, our little ones and our families. Do we make our decisions based on who we are or what the society expects of us? Who is a mother? Who makes a good mother? Who makes an unfit mom? A biological mother or a surrogate mom? A biological mother or an adoptive mother? A full-time mom or a working mom?

And time and time again we question ourselves, are we doing enough? Are we doing the right thing? Are we doing our best? Will I regret this? Will my child hate me for this? And we tend to compare ourselves to other mothers especially those who post often on social media showing the world their perfect children and/or household, we constantly strive and try to live up to the society’s idea of a ‘good’ mother. As if the pressure we put on ourselves isn’t enough, we are constantly being judged too. Make one mistake and we’re condemned.

I think sometimes, we mothers are too harsh on ourselves and each other. At the end of the day, we are all mothers who just want what’s best for our child(ren) and hope that they know it, or will realize it some day.

Our duty to one another is this: Send & give Love, Kindness and Support.

So every other day that you survive motherhood, give yourself a pat on your back and congratulate yourself. On tough days, seek help and support. Remember, it takes a village!

To all mothers, especially my mommy bloggers, Happy Mother’s Day! Sending all my love and support your way!

Side note: After reading these books, I just realized one thing. There aren’t many stay-at-home mothers story as an MC! If you know any, please do recommend it to me!

Have you read any of the books listed here? What did you think? Please share with me your thoughts!

And may the force of good books be with you always! Happy Reading! Thank you for stopping by!

Yes. We stay with our parents in India, and my parents are my best friends. Hence watched movies, ordered a take out, saw a cricket match… 😂 Fun stuff

Lovely post, Jee! And happy mother’s day (the British mother’s day was back in March!)
Agree I can’t think of any stay at home mothers in books… children’s books maybe, but not as a main character. I guess the authors decide that nothing exciting can happen when you’re spending all day tidying up/laundry/changing nappies etc.

Thank You, NS! Oh I didn’t know mother’s day in the UK is in March! Wonder why mother’s day is on different days… Hmmm.. I agree with you! They think Stay-At-Home-Moms jobs are mundane lolol also I think the authors aren’t creative enough to think up of a good story for SAHM hey, NS! Be the first to write one for the SAHM! 😉😉 I’d be the first to buy and read!!! ❤️ ❤️

I’m sure that in the UK, Mother’s Day is related to the church holy days, so it moves around and might even be in April some years.
Oh yes, the stay at home mum theme would be great for a psych thriller! Will be my next one after the one I’m working on 😉
        You’re so kind ♥
