Kidding! Stay stay. We’re all different and I respect that 😉 (I do shudder at that thought though 😅)
I’m sure you all have come across posts about using random stuff as bookmarks. I thought I’d do one too especially after seeing this:
Guess what was in there?
My daughter’s socks! Don’t worry, they were clean LOL I kind of knew what she was using them for but still, I had to ask her. Just for the fun of it lol
Me: Why is there a pair of socks in your book?
My daughter: To know where I stop reading.
Me: You have so many bookmarks, why don’t you use one?
She: I can’t find one nearby. I saw you use a chocolate before!
Me: (Yeah she caught me red-handed 😏 Ok to my defense, the chocolate was still in its wrapper. So the book wasn’t harmed. And yes, it was the closest to me!)
I left our ‘discussion’ at that and let her walk free. I think if she were older, she would’ve named a list of other things I use as ‘bookmarks’. So, inadvertently, she let me walk free LOL
So, other ‘weird’ things I (and my daughter) use/have used as bookmarks are:
- My reading light. You see the one above? I use the same one too. The bendy part? Yeah, I use it to bookmark the book I’m reading.
- Headband/hairband. I have about 3 (I think) lying at random places. So yeah, I’ve used them before and still continue to use it whenever it’s within reach.
- My memory. Well, this fails most of the time. But despite that, I still use it, as a form of ‘brain exercise’ LOL
- Hairclips: My daughter is guilty of this. No, she doesn’t clip the pages with it, she just places it between them.
- Lego block: I’ve only seen my daughter use it once, and I’m sure she’d use it again when she finds it convenient!
- A piece of clothing: When I do the laundry and it’s the closest thing to me.
- Kitchen utensils: Yes, you read that right! After kids, my kitchen utensils have grown legs. A spoon/chopstick/fork can be missing/laying anywhere around the house. Sometimes caught in between the pages of my daughter’s book! Her dad said, she only learned from the best 😏 FYI, I don’t use kitchen utensils!!! But, fine, I get it 😫
- A booksleeve: Oh I lurrrrve booksleeves and I’m guilty of owning a few (and still looking for more LOL). I find they aren’t only useful as protection for my books, but work great as bookmarks too! 😉

LOL this is so random! I have to admit, if I don’t have a bookmark to hand, I tend to put the book face down 😀 But no folding down the pages. I like the idea of using a chocolate as a bookmark – you can eat it when you next open the book 😉

Oh I sometimes do that, putting the book face down, but only if I know it’s not gonna be for long, for fear of causing creases to the binding LOL And yes, eating the chocolate when I open the book of course! That’s the whole point right haha

I have a whole tin of bookmarks from different states, different countries, and just cute or pretty ones. When someone is traveling and wants to know what I want for a souvenir, I ask for a bookmark or postcard to use as one. And, yes, I keep them near me and USE them. It reminds me of who sent them to me and where they traveled to. It’s become a tradition among my students and friends.

What a great way to use bookmarks, Rae! I do have a collection of bookmarks too. But I don’t use them for fear of losing them LOL And I love collecting postcards too 🙂 Thank you for sharing!

Oh, so fun, Jee! I love that she had a bookmark, no matter if it was socks! I have used envelopes, my memory (like you, that doesn’t go so well!), hair scrunchies, and a pen or pencil. Some of my favorite bookmarks are ones YOU sent me, my friend. ♥️

Socks as a bookmark! Love it! I guess you can’t really blame her, if you use chocolate bars. 😆 I rarely read physical copies these days, so I don’t need bookmarks, but I do own quite a few. Don’t think I’ve ever used something as creative as socks. Maybe an old receipt or a piece of notepaper if that was the closest thing to me. Fun post!

Yup! When I got my first Kindle, I got rid of (almost) all my physical books. And now I operate a strict one-in-one-out principle, so I can’t buy a new physical copy without getting rid of another. Since I love all the books which I still have, I rarely buy more.

How did you manage to get rid your physical books? I find it so hard to part with them 😦 I wish I had your discipline of not buying more books!

Haha, I am quite good at discipline. Once I’ve decided something I go for it 100%. Also, I prefer to live in an uncluttered home without too many things, so I generally don’t shop much (ebooks and audiobooks don’t count obviously!) 😆

I’m starting to buy more ebooks than physical books too. But sometimes beautiful books are so irresistible! 😦

Hahaah! A sock inside a book! I’m not there yet (parenthood) but I feel like it might be something I’ll end up doing later in my life too hahahah Great post, Jee. 😀
