My very first WWW Wednesday! First seen on Mani’s Book Corner 🙂 , hosted on Taking On A World of Words.

What are the 3 Ws?

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently reading:

Educated by Tara WestoverEducated: A Memoir by Tara Westover

Blurb (Amazon): Educated is an account of the struggle for self-invention. It is a tale of fierce family loyalty, and of the grief that comes from severing one’s closest ties. With the acute insight that distinguishes all great writers, Westover has crafted a universal coming-of-age story that gets to the heart of what an education is and what it offers: the perspective to see one’s life through new eyes, and the will to change it.

Review up soon! 🙂

Recently finished reading:

Half Gods by Akil KumarasamyHalf Gods by Akil Kumarasamy

Synopsis: Devastated by the Sri Lanka Civil War in 1983, that lasted for 26 years, these survivors moved to America, hoping to forget their past and rebuild their dreams. This is a collection of their stories. My review here

My verdict: 2.5-3/5

This book has gotten many good reviews. I’m just probably not the audience for it. I loved her writing though….just couldn’t get into the characters… 😦

Plan on reading: I haven’t decided between the two…

Number One Chinese Restaurant by Lillian Li:

(Amazon)

The Beijing Duck House in Rockville, Maryland, is not only a beloved go-to setting for hunger pangs and celebrations; it is its own world, inhabited by waiters and kitchen staff who have been fighting, loving, and aging within its walls for decades. When disaster strikes, this working family’s controlled chaos is set loose, forcing each character to confront the conflicts that fast-paced restaurant life has kept at bay.

Generous in spirit, unaffected in its intelligence, multi-voiced, poignant, and darkly funny, Number One Chinese Restaurant looks beyond red tablecloths and silkscreen murals to share an unforgettable story about youth and aging, parents and children, and all the ways that our families destroy us while also keeping us grounded and alive.

The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin:

(Amazon)

If you knew the date of your death, how would you live your life?

It’s 1969 in New York City’s Lower East Side, and word has spread of the arrival of a mystical woman, a traveling psychic who claims to be able to tell anyone the day they will die. The Gold children—four adolescents on the cusp of self-awareness—sneak out to hear their fortunes.

The prophecies inform their next five decades. Golden-boy Simon escapes to the West Coast, searching for love in ’80s San Francisco; dreamy Klara becomes a Las Vegas magician, obsessed with blurring reality and fantasy; eldest son Daniel seeks security as an army doctor post-9/11; and bookish Varya throws herself into longevity research, where she tests the boundary between science and immortality.

A sweeping novel of remarkable ambition and depth, The Immortalists probes the line between destiny and choice, reality and illusion, this world and the next. It is a deeply moving testament to the power of story, the nature of belief, and the unrelenting pull of familial bonds.

Please feel free to comment and share your list below with me too, or help me decide which book to read 🙂

Till then, may the books you read take you to great adventures!
