Title/Author: The Overdue Life of Amy Byler by Kelly Harms
Publisher: Lake Union Publishing
In a nutshell (Publisher):
Overworked and underappreciated, single mom Amy Byler needs a break. So when the guilt-ridden husband who abandoned her shows up and offers to take care of their kids for the summer, she accepts his offer and escapes rural Pennsylvania for New York City.
Usually grounded and mild mannered, Amy finally lets her hair down in the city that never sleeps. She discovers a life filled with culture, sophistication, and—with a little encouragement from her friends—a few blind dates. When one man in particular makes quick work of Amy’s heart, she risks losing herself completely in the unexpected escape, and as the summer comes to an end, Amy realizes too late that she must make an impossible decision: stay in this exciting new chapter of her life, or return to the life she left behind.
But before she can choose, a crisis forces the two worlds together, and Amy must stare down a future where she could lose both sides of herself, and every dream she’s ever nurtured, in the beat of a heart.
Verdict: Fun summer read!
My thoughts:
Amy’s ex husband decided to return to his family and prove his worth after ‘disappearing’ for 3 years. That @**. Please forgive my language. Anyway, Amy agreed to give him a chance to redeem himself and spend the summer with her brilliant kids, while she heads off to NYC to have some fun.
Amy is a hoot! Love her loyal friends (the nun especially!) and her crazy, too-good-to-be-true momspringa in NYC! One of her best friends happened to be an editor of a fashion magazine so Amy was able to have her momspringa make-overs and what-nots paid for, to prep her for the momspringa feature in the magazine. And of course what’s a momspringa without hot dates and one happened to be a hot librarian, whom she met at her librarian convention. Yes of course they fell in love and had to face the fact that Amy will have to return to her reality back in Pennsylvania after her 3-month break away from her kids.
You’d be able to relate to Amy if you’re a mom, single parent or not. She’ll let you know you aren’t alone. She’ll let you know you are enough, that your kids are lucky to have you, that you’re the best that you can be and that yes, you deserve a break without the guilt!
I don’t normally go for fun nor feel-good books like this with happy endings because you know, real life is so far from it. But I just couldn’t resist the sight of books on the cover, plus it was on Amazon First Reads. So I thought, why not! And my, was I surprised that I enjoyed the story! I’m gonna coin this term #fff fun-funny-feelgood book!
Feeling down? Need a lift? Read this! A librarian? (ex librarian? I’m looking at you NS! 😉) A mom? Love books? Then you need to read this! :) If you’re looking for a fun book with a sweet, feel-good ending, this will do it! It’ll bring a smile to your face! 😊

LOL I had not heard of ‘momspringa’ before and had to look it up!
I don’t usually go for feelgood books either, but this one does sound good.
As you have rightly deduced, librarian & mom & books seems designed to appeal to me?
Great reviews Jee 🙂
